Dommage que le sommet de Copenhague se soit terminé en échec. Par contre, cela ne nous empêche pas de faire un geste personnel pour l'environnement, même si le voisin ne veut pas faire d'effort. Quoi qu'il en soit, passez de joyeuses fêtes!

Too bad that our leaders could not come to a sensible agreement in Copenhagen earlier this month. But that does not mean that we can't do a personal effort for the environment, even if the neighbour doesn't.

La Figure 1 illustre comment créer un fantôme décoratif pour l'Halloween avec du matériel de laboratoire. A) Roulez un premier papier Kimwipe en boule puis centrez-le sur un deuxième; B) Refermez le deuxième Kimwipe sur le premier et, à l'aide d'une ficelle ou d'un ruban élastique, faites un noeud à la base de la boule. Avec un stylo feutre Sharpie à pointe large, dessinez les yeux et la bouche.

À bien y penser, c'est plus économique d'utiliser du papier-toilette au lieu du Kimwipe - mais pas du papier rose, parce qu'un fantôme rose, ça ne fait pas peur du tout (d'ailleurs, personne n'a jamais vu ça un fantôme rose). Envoyez-moi vos photos de fantômes ou autres éléments de déco!

Figure 1 illustrates how to make a decorative Hallowe'en ghost with common laboratory equipment. A) Roll a first sheet of Kimwipe paper into a loose ball and center it into second tissue. B) Wrap the second Kimwipe over the first and, with a string or a rubber-band, secure a knot at the base of the ball. Using a large-felt Sharpie pen, draw the mouth and eyes.

Actually, just use Kleenex or toilet paper instead of Kimwipes. They're much cheaper. Send me your pictures of ghosts or Hallowe'en decorations!
