wetbench_36 - Extractionator part II

fr
Lisez-vous les instructions?
a) Toujours
b) Souvent
c) Parfois
d) Jamais

en
A: Hey, let's try the Extractionator on a plant of
Arabidopsis!
* Splotch! *

A: Whoa, maybe it needs some fine-tuning.
C: Cool! Now, can we try it out on a mouse?

B: Uhm, I suggest that we first read the instruction manual.

wetbench_35 - Extractionator

fr

D: Good morning and thank you for your attention. Today, I will present to you Wetbench Inc.'s latest innovation in lab automation technology.
(A: What, no donuts???)
D: Please allow me to introduce the Extractionator XP-2PQ(TM)!
A, B and C: Oooooh!...
D: The Extractionator is our all-in-one solution to your DNA, RNA and protein extraction needs, your PCR needs and much more!
A: Can it serve coffee?
C: ...Or fresh beer?

wetbench_34 - Chocolate Synthetase

fr

Don't you think that the Easter bunny is a freak of nature? It overexpresses a little known (unfortunately) exotic enzyme, the Chocolate Synthetase, and it's a mammal that lays eggs!
Happy egg-hunting!

wetbench_33 - Bière instantanée

fr
La bière se déguste mieux au Pub!

en
A: Hey C, what are you up to?
C: I'm inventing powdered beer, so that it is easier to carry on camping trips. I freeze-dried some beer, added a pinch of an endothermic catalyst... Then all we need to do is to re-hydrate with water and ethanol, and ta-da: Instant cold beer! Do you want to taste?

A: Uhmm, no thanks! It doesn't look very tasty...

wetbench_31 - Caniche-By-Design

Caniche-By-Design clones puppies that freshen your environment... and more!

We're not there yet, but for this drawing, I was inspired by a joke that came up over lunch with my colleagues and by this article on Wired. Also check-out the web page of the Dog Genome Sequencing Project at MIT's Broad Institute and Craig Venter's poodle.

wetbench_30 - Happy New Year!

fr

C: There's a lack of fresh beer at this new year's party!
A: They were too heavy to carry.

Happy new year everyone! Since Têt arrives quite early this year, I figured I'd send you my best wishes of prosperity, happiness and good health for 2009 at the same time. So, Happy New Year!

And for those of you who aren't following, I'm also including the follow-up story to the camping episode (wetbench_24).

wetbench_28 - Enzyme de restriction

fr

C: Hey, I read that they've just discovered an isoschizomer (1) of HindIII from the posterior parts of bees.
E: Really?

C: Yup, they called it BeeHindIII.

(1) Note: Isoschizomers are restriction enzymes isolated from different biological sources but that recognize and cut a same sequence of DNA. Here's a challenge: try using the word isoschizomer in a pick-up line, and succeed.

Enrichment of tomato fruit with health-promoting anthocyanins by expression of select transcription factors
